Nice to meet you!

Hi girls!

Congratulations on your scholarship! We’ve created this blog to share practical tips as well as our fondest memories about our trip to Austin, Texas.

Meet the first ASI team! We were the first team of Argentinian teachers to take part in the American Studies Institute Training, a two-week study program which features Methodology and Culture Seminars and a Listening and Speaking workshop. Besides, you’ll have the opportunity to go sightseeing and gain first-hand knowledge of American Culture.

Please feel free to post any messages, comments or questions (in English or Spanish!). We would really like to keep in touch with you.

  2. Hi, Griselda!
So, you are a friend of Marisa’s. What a coincidence! Marisa and I got along very well. She’s a very sensitive and passionate person. I guess she must have already briefed you on the trip. Good for you!

  4. Hi Carla!
I’m Paola from la Palestina, Cba. I know Maria Clara Simoni, she was my teacher when I was studying to become an English teacher. Thank u so much for taking some time to write to us and tell us about ur experience! I’m looking forward to go to Austin, I believe we’re gonna have a great time there! Thanks again!

  5. Hi again, Paola!
I’ll answer your question here so that everybody can read it. When we traveled, we stayed at an Extended Stay Hotel. Each of us shared the room with another teacher. In fact, María Clara Simoni was my roommate!!! The rooms were very comfortable. They have two big beds, a TV, a desk and a small kitchen.
This was our hotel’s site, check it out: http://www.homesteadhotels.com/minisite/?hotelID=1
Important: Each room also has an iron and a hair dryer, so don’t carry any of these as I did!!
    Regards,
    Carla

  8. Hi, Marisa!
It’s great to hear from you again. Thanks a lot for your comment.
    Hugs,
    Carla

  9. Carla, I was wondering about the voltage of electricity there. It’s to recharge the batteries of the digi cam, not big deal.
Another thing, did u have in mind a project to carry out in argentina before going to texas? I keep thinking about it, but since I’m not sure about what we are going to do there, I find it really hard. As far as I heard we are taking some courses on methodology, US culture…
    take care
    kisses
    Pao

  10. Hi, Paola,
The voltage is 110. I remember some of the girls tried to buy a transformer there but it was impossible. So, it could be a good idea to take one with you.
As regards the project, I did have something in mind before traveling. As you can see, I am interested in online exchanges. But if you still don’t, maybe you’ll come up with an idea on the spot. I’m sure the teachers there will be able to help you out.
    Hugs,
    Carla

    a big hug, Clara

  12. Thanks Clara!
Please, stick around to meet the new participants and share your experience with them. I know one of your colleagues, Joe, is travelling this time, so I bet he’s going to get some first-hand advice about the trip. :)

    Hugs,

    Carla

  13. Congratulations to the third group of grantees who are travelling in January!!!I’m Marisa from la Pampa, I went last February. Everything is going to be ok as it is very well organised so relax and try to make the most of the intercultural exchange, which is the key to it. Make contact with as many people as possible, be curious, have a plan.
And talking about plans, Carla you are a genious!! this blog is wonderful, CONGRATS to you!!!
…and new girls don’t hesitate to ask any questions
you have about the trip. We’ll be very glad to answer if we can.
